After an amazing stay at Nihiwatu we moved on to Bali. My first visit to Bali was almost 15 years ago and it was nice to be back. Bali is a magical place filled with the essence of all things exotic.
When we initially arrived in Bali we spent one night at the Ritz Carlton Nusa Dua before our flight to Sumba. Upon our return, we moved on to Ubud and the Ritz Carlton, Mandapa. Located in the uplands, Ubud is considered the cultural center of Bali. Here you will find all manner of traditional arts and crafts, from painting and wood working to theater and dance. The city is filled with temples and the Tegallalang rice paddies are a must-see while there. If you have time (and like pork) head over to Ibu Oka, a local favorite and home to some of the best pork dishes around. If monkeys are your thing, make sure to stop by Monkey Forest (this is one of my wife’s favorite stops and she made sure we visited again on this trip).
After checking out of the Ritz Carlton we headed over to the Four Seasons Jimbaran Bay. We had a late flight so decided to book a “day room” and relax for a few hours before our long journey on to France.
