Egypt. One of the great Civilizations of World History. From it’s Early beginnings around 3150 BCE, Egypt still fascinates and amazes even the most well travelled. From the Great Pyramids of Giza to the Karnak Temple Complex, part of the monumental city of Thebes, Egypt remains one of the most amazing destinations of the world, giving rise to some of the worlds greatest artistry and skilled architecural remains. I had the great privilege to travel to Egypt back in 2008. One thing that struck me right away was the combination of ancient and modern, old and new, and the immense, frenetic population of its cities, interspersed with moments of quiet and complete silence while walking among its ancient temple cities. More Recently, tourism to Egypt has began It’s slow recovery from the unrest that has troubled the country Since 2011. At it’s height of popularity, tourism in Egypt employed roughly 12% of the population and was responsible for almost 13% of its GDP. Unfortunately these numbers fell dramatically over the course of the next several years, as the number of visitors dropped by a large percentage. Tourism is obviously a vital component to the country’s healthy economy, and I know that I look forward to returning very soon to this magnificent country. As of today, Egypt is waiting with open arms to welcome travelers back, either for the first time or for a repeat visit. My initial time here was short, with many experiences still yet to be discovered. I know that I will be back soon!
